The skin is an organ of elimination just like the kidneys and the colon. More than one pound of waste products are discharged through the skin every day. If the skin becomes inactive with its pores blocked with millions of dead cells, then impurities will remain in the body. The other eliminative organs, mainly the kidneys and liver, will have to increase their labor and will eventually become overworked. If toxins and wastes begin to build up in the tissues because the kidneys and liver cannot cope with their job, then sooner or later disease will follow. The lymph system carries body waste out of the body but most people do not realize that the lymph system has no ‘pump’ like the heart for the blood. Exercise and perspiration help the lymph system to move and dump toxins as well as certain types of massage. Lately, as a practitioner I have been seeing many people with swollen lymph glands under their arms or they tell me that they do not “sweat” or perspire - even when the weather is hot or they are at the gym. It is vital to open the lymphs! Dry skin brushing is very inexpensive - at least for the brush(es) - the true cost may be your personal commitment to doing this adjunctive health treatment regularly.
We do need to wash, perhaps even more than we realize, but does that ritual with the soap and water really do the job? All that soap can create its own problems and once you start to dry skin brush your skin will glow and you will feel so much better! Below is an actual picture of cellulite improvement after regular skin brushing:
Skin brushing (which must be done DRY, not in the bath) - will change the health of your whole body. It benefits circulation, skin softness/quality, skin infections and irritations, prevention of colds/flu and a deep personal rejuvenation - these are all areas of improvement you can look for when you make this a consistent habit.

HOW TO DO:
Buy a natural bristle (not synthetic) brush, since it won’t scratch the surface of the skin. Buy a brush with a long (detachable) handle so that you are able to get to the areas of your body that are not easy to reach when you are doing your own skin brushing. Sometimes you can buy two in a package- one with only the brush with a place for your hand to cup the top and another brush with a handle.
Skin brush before showering or bathing at least one time per day and twice if possible. Do not wet the skin since it will not have the same effect- because this stretches the skin. Always brush toward the heart. The clavicle and underarm are a lymph drainage area and I recommend bringing brush strokes from the arms and torso to both sides of underarms. Do circular counter-clockwise strokes on the abdomen - remembering that the left side of the abdomen is the descending colon where waste is pushed toward the rectum. Do lighter strokes over and around breasts but do not brush the nipples. For the lower part of the body the second lymph drainage area is the groin. Brush the soles of the feet first because the nerve endings there affect the entire body and next brush the ankles, calves, thighs and buttocks towards the groin.
Take a warm bath, shower or sauna which should always be followed by a cool rinse at the end to invigorate blood circulation and stimulate surface warmth.
As always - thanks so much for reading.
